Project Result 02 - Educational Handout

Empowering Youth through Climate EducationMyHood Educational Handout

The MyHood project seeks to encourage young people (13-18 years old) to develop a deeper understanding of climate change as well as how it affects their communities, lifestyles, and cities, in general. Through detailed analysis and long-term research, the MyHood partners harvested the most important information on climate change’s effects on our lives and condensed it into an Educational Handout appropriate for the young audience.

The purpose of the handout is to educate, raise climate awareness, and inspire young people to actively participate in creating their neighbourhood and community, so impacting their future.

The Educational Handout has two main chapters:

  1. Climate change concepts and their effects

This chapter explores core climate change concepts (Urban Heat Island, Air Quality, Flood Risk) briefly describing each concept and its’ implications using simple informative diagrams and pictures of real-life natural disasters.

  1. Blue-Green-Gray (BGG) infrastructure

The second chapter focuses on explaining to the young audience the wider context of the BGG infrastructure –  using text and images – and how it may help our cities mitigate and adapt to the climate change effects.

This chapter is divided into three subchapters each of which focusses on a certain sort of BGG infrastructure. All of the subchapters break down a wide range of solutions/examples implemented in urban settings and provide valuable information and knowledge about their benefits and their contribution in transforming our cities into sustainable places to live, play and thrive.

By using a variety of informative images and pictures the young audience will familiarize themselves with the concept of climate change as well as equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for a brighter, more inclusive, and greener future.
